If you put it in separate case that means you have to cable things up on gigs, which is a pain. The Carvin and the new 1202VLXPRO3 are rack mountable but if mounted in a standard rack unit they take up a lot of space. I would consider buying a Carvin Studiomate or a Mackie 1202VLXPRO or 1202VLXPRO3 but i wanted to avoid top controlleed units so i could have all my stuff in one standard rack case. I have read on the internet that perhaps Rane and Ashly mixers are other good options. My electrical engineer friend suggests it may be a lack of shielding/ interference issue. It could be a grounding issue, i am not educated about electrical grounding issues and how to resolve them. I tried changing power strips, cables, effects units, mics, etc and my electrical engineer friend and I believe the hum is in the unit and not the other eqpt. Ive tested it out compared to a Behringer mixer, and the behringer was quieter. But if i have it in my practice room and not blowing sax, there is a slight audible hum. I find this hum very annoying, but i also find that on gigs such as with a rock or blues band playing loud music, where my sax playing is mixed in with the band, and when i am playing sax through it, that the hum is not audible in that context.

I do know it has a headphone jack that the RM65 does not have. Maybe the RM65b is improved (maybe in ways other than the use of an external power supply), i dont know. Also it took me a long time to get to the point of playing where i was actually ready to use and using this mixer on gigs.Īnyone else have hum noise problems with their RM65 or RM65b units? And i wanted to keep it compact and lightweight.

I had decided i wanted to go with my rack setup in a standard SKB type case, with no top controls. This has been annoying as heck to me bcause it is the sole 1 rack space unit mixer that i know of that is sold with the features we saxists desire (such as send/receive jacks, built in phantom power, monitor out, etc.Īlso it took me a long time to figure out what i wanted to do with a rack setup- i had decided i wanted to avoid top controlled mixers, because i didnt want to get something like the SKB GIG RACK case. I understand the new, current model is an RM65b which has an external power supply.Īfter using it since this modification i find that my particular unit still has some hum. Modify it to use an external power supply, and they offered to do it for $10. They suggested I send it in and they would Then when i tried it out it had a hum problem. I got it used, guy i got it from said it was in new shape but he didnt need it.
